Luis Enrique Martinez speaks about the intense atmosphere at Camp Nou on the day Luis Figo returned to his old home as a Real Madrid player
Paris Saint-Germain coach Luis Enrique Martinez has revealed in a new documentary to celebrate Barcelona’s 125th anniversary that the atmosphere at Camp Nou that affected him the most was Luis Figo’s first home game as a Real Madrid player in 2000, the coach told Barcelona broadcaster TV3 on Friday.
‘The game where I felt the most atmosphere at Camp Nou was the day Figo came back,’ said Luis Enrique. ‘Fico is our little brother, our real little brother. He is our best player and he went to Real Madrid. ‘
‘Camp Nou is a stadium where you have to arrive half an hour early and have another half hour to spare. We went out to warm up, but there were not many people. That day, about 45 minutes before the game, it was full of people. We could not hear anything when we warmed up.’
‘Lucho’ also explained that with such an atmosphere, there was no way they would lose because of the noise coming from the stands of the Camp Nou.
‘I remember saying to Pitu (Abelardo Fernandez) that I think Pep is there too. It’s impossible for us to lose today. It’s UFABET powerful, it’s scary,’
‘I remember Puyi (Carles Puyol) was marking Figo. Puyi was young, but he was a beast, while Figo was the best player at Real Madrid. But because of the pressure, a pressure I couldn’t imagine, I thought: ‘What is this?’ And we won the game because it was impossible not to win. ‘
